Solid-liquid equilibria in mixtures of iron(III) nitrate nonahydrate and ethanol or 1-propanol

Solutions of iron(III) nitrate nonahydrate (INN) in ethanol and 1-propanol are interesting starting materials for producing iron oxide nanoparticles by spray flame synthesis. For the design these processes, it is important to have information on solid-liquid equilibria (SLE) solutions. As corresponding data were not available literature, we studied SLE solutions INN experimentally at temperatures between 288.15 308.15 K 101.3 kPa. Unexpected phenomena occur solutions: one would expect an increasing amount precipitate upon concentration salt INN, but reverse behavior observed a wide range states. This caused chemical reactions hydroxide (IH) precipitates from solution, leading also strong acidity mixture. These effects taken into account physico-chemical model that was developed describing systems. In model, physical non-ideality described with extended Pitzer model.
